Medical students hold protest over professorial unit

Students of the Faculty of Medicine at Wayamba University held a protest on Saturday (9) in front of the Health Ministry to immediately allocate adequate healthcare staff for their professorial unit in the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

The final year students are going to begin their professorial training in November, but yet no healthcare staff have been assigned to that professorial unit.

Without adequate healthcare staff, they can’t start their professorial training and this issue will affect not only them, but all the medical faculties as they have to face a common final MBBS Exam in 2024.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandraguptha is expected to meet the university students today (11) to provide a solution for the matter.

During the protest on Saturday, he had a phone conversation with the students and promised to give a solution today.
