Mercantile Football Association celebrates 105th anniversary

The Grand Ballroom of the Galle Face Hotel Colombo vibrated with the electrifying spirit of celebration on December 6th, as the Mercantile Football Association (MFA) marked its 105th anniversary in grand style.

This momentous occasion served as a powerful testament to the Association’s rich history, unwavering dedication to the sport, and unwavering commitment to fostering a united and thriving football community. The MFA boasts of a history dating back to 1918, making it one of the oldest football leagues in Sri Lanka.

Among the dignitaries who graced the event were . Stewart Michael Regan (Senior Consultant, FIFA and Former General Secretary, Scotland Football Association), . Prince Rufus (Lead Regional Office, FIFA South Asia), Chokey Nima (FIFA Regional Technical Consultant, South Asia), and Jaswar Umar (President, Sri Lanka Football).

MFA President, Saif Yousuf, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in elevating the standards of football in Sri Lanka. He highlighted the Association’s efforts to support players by providing employment opportunities with member companies, which has not only improved their livelihoods but also fostered a healthy environment for players to excel in their sport.
