In a concerted effort to combat deforestation and environmental degradation, Muslim Foundation for Culture and Development (MFCD) partnered with the Haritha Lanka Organization (HLO) and coordinated a tree-planting campaign in the settlement areas of Hantana, specifically at Deltota, located in the picturesque district of Kandy on February 08.
The principal goal of MFCD is to spearhead a tree-planting campaign among the residents of Kithulmulla through its ‘Climate Change Action Project 2024’. This collaborative initiative aims to address the dual challenge of deforestation and climate change by enhancing green cover and biodiversity in the region.
Through the active participation of local residents, the project seeks to instil a sense of environmental stewardship and sustainable living practices.
The tree-planting campaign not only contributes to the immediate improvement of the local ecosystem but also aligns with the broader mission of MFCD to create a more resilient and ecologically sustainable community. The organization envisions this effort as a stepping stone toward a greener and healthier future for the residents of Hantana and surrounding areas.
MFCD Chairman Hanan Hussain, its Head of Finance Ashfaq, Project Manager Marshad Mansoor, Project Coordinator Ashif Rauf, IT & Media officer Farik Mahir, Ruzky ahamad and MFCD Sri Lanka’s volunteers also attended the event, along with HLO Programme coordinator Dinesh Under the consultant of MFCD Sri Lanka Chief executive officer Hasreem Ismail.
