Agriculture and Plantation Industry Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the financial management success of the Agrarian Development Department in spending the money allocated by the Government for the year 2023 for the related projects is 100 percent.
In the year 2023, the Government has allocated Rs.3,000 million through the budget for many projects such as renovation of small tank systems, provision of parachute discs to farmers, measurement of paddy land by Geo Goviya application, establishment of youth Agri-entrepreneurship villages etc.
The Minister expressed these views while participating in the distribution of chicks and coconut seedlings to the beneficiaries of the Lunugamwehera Lower Mattala Youth Agri-Entrepreneurship Village.
The Agrarian Development Department has taken steps to successfully spend the relevant amount on the specified projects within the specified time without allowing even a single rupee of the allocated money to be diverted back to the Treasury.
Considering the good financial management of the department, the Treasury has allocated another Rs. 3,000 million for the year 2024. The Minister also mentioned that all the systematic projects presented by the Agrarian Development Department have been earmarked financial allocations without any reductions in this year’s budget.
The Minister said that if every Government institution presents projects that are prepared in a systematic manner like the Agrarian Development Department, the money given by the Government will be provided without any reduction, and it is important to establish the trust of the Government by spending the money given in an orderly and transparent manner without defects.
Hadabima Authority Chairman Sarath Withana and a group of others participated in this event.
