Engaging in a tour in the Kurikattuwan area in Jaffna recently, Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda called the passenger ferry boats owners who provide services to Delft and Nainatheevu Islands, the Navy officials, and the other officials relevant to the ferry service and held a special discussion.
A lot of Government Officials as well as ordinary people especially from Delft Island fulfil their transport needs with this ferry service, and they have been severely inconvenienced due to the issues in the operation of this ferry service. These issues were discussed at length at the Jaffna District Development Committee meeting as well.
The Minister instructed the ferry boat owners, Navy officers, and the officials related to the operation of this ferry service, to anchor the ferry boats according to a timetable and operate the service without any interruption and to appoint two officials to monitor this service.
The Minister further instructed to take necessary measures to moor the boats in the berth, properly, without causing hindrance to people, and to give priority to the transport services to Delft Island.
