Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, who is on a private visit to the US, met the Chief Incumbent of the International Buddhist Centre in Maryland and Chief Sanghanayake Thera of North America, Most Ven. Katugasthota Uparathana Thera and received his blessings, said Media Coordinator of International Buddhist Centre Maryland, Sisira Wijesinghe.
The Minister informed the Thera on the reforms to be initiated and the measures taken for the development of the Education sector in the country.
He elaborated on thenew Degree courses introduced into local universities, with the help of a number of foreign universities, which has helped reduce the foreign exchange expended on higher education in foreign universities.
The Minister said that issues related to the conduct of school examinations will be resolved within the next year, while the Government has taken measures to provide the midday meal to at least 2 million schoolchildren, with the assistance of foreign agencies.
The Minister further added that significant allocations has been set apart for the uplift of Pirivena education as well.
