Ministry to probe death of undergrad in hospital

The Health Ministry has called for a comprehensive report on the death of the Jaffna University undergrad alleged to have been caused by Dengue fever.

The relatives of the deceased have stated in their complaint that when the student was first admitted to the Thelippalai Hospital in Jaffna, there was a suspicion that she was suffering from dengue.They said that the Thelippalai Hospital did not confirm that she has contracted dengue fever.

The complaint has also stated that after she was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, there is information to suspect that she died due to an allergy to the drugs given to her.

Relatives of the student said that this death was due to the negligence of the doctors and staff of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital as they did not administer medicine to a dengue patient.

The relatives of the student have requested the Health Ministry to conduct a formal and impartial investigation in this regard.
