Minsilu downs India’s Desai in a three-setter

Promising Chamath Minsilu recorded a hard-fought win over Eshaayup Desai of India on the second day of the ATF Under-14 Week-1 Tennis Tournament, which continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Clay Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.

Minsilu dropped the opening set 5-7 but recovered well to snatch the remaining two sets 7-5, 6-1 to reach the second-round of the Boys’ Singles event.

In contrast, his countryman Buvindu Jayawardhene cruised to a more convincing straight set victory over Tenne Shiral of Japan while Sasen Premarathne also joined the second-round with an easy win over Prajeet Reddy of India.

Meanwhile, in the Girls’ Singles event, Sri Lanka’s Sahansa Damsiluni came from behind with a fine performance to register an exciting three-set win over her teammate Kiyara Jayamanne.

(Girls’ Singles second-round): Janani Guruge (Sri Lanka) beat Eranya Rahulan (Sri Lanka) 4-1, 4-0. Sahansa Damsiluni (Sri Lanka) beat Kiyara Jayamanne (Sri Lanka) 3-5, 4-1, 4-2. Akesha Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Yuhansa Peiris (Sri Lanka) 5-3, 4-2. Ahisath Karian (Maldives) beat Methuli Mehansa (Sri Lanka) 4-2, 4-2. Chiara de Zoysa (Sri Lanka) beat Madumali Kamalendran (Sri Lanka) 5-4, 4-2, 4-0. Leyala Knese (Germany) beat Sethuli Sitandi (Sri Lanka) 4-0, 4-0.
