Modi, Jaishankar, Stalin offer condolences on death of R. Sampanthan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sent messages of condolence on the death of former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Leader R. Sampanthan.

Taking to ‘X’, Indian Prime Minister Modi said, “My deepest condolences to the family and friends of veteran TNA leader R. Sampanthan. Will always cherish fond memories of meetings held with him. He relentlessly pursued a life of peace, security, equality, justice and dignity for the Tamil nationals of Sri Lanka. He will be deeply missed by his friends and followers in Sri Lanka and India.”

Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on ‘X’ said, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Sri Lankan Tamil leader Shri R. Sampanthan. Recall my many meetings and conversations with him over several decades. He dedicated his entire life fighting for the equality, dignity and justice for Tamils in Sri Lanka. My condolences to his family and followers.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in an official statement, expressed his sadness on the demise of veteran Sri Lankan Tamil leader R. Sampanthan and honoured Sampanthan’s contributions and his lifelong commitment to Tamil welfare and said that his impact on Sri Lankan politics is deemed irreplaceable and that his death is a profound loss not only for the Sri Lankan Tamil community but also for Tamils worldwide.
