More postal votes for General Election than for Presidential polls

The Election Commission (EC) stated that the number of postal vote applicants who have applied for this year’s General Election has increased compared to the last Presidential Election.

The EC further stated that all the submitted postal voting applications have been received.

A total of 712,319 postal voters were eligible to vote for the recent Presidential Election.

The Postal Department will receive the reserved packet containing the registered postal vote ballot papers from tomorrow to be distributed to the postal voters for the 2024 General Election.

Deputy Postmaster General (Operations), D.A. Rajitha K. Ranasinghe said that the relevant reserved packets will be delivered to the certifying officers immediately.

Postal voting for the Parliamentary Election will be held on October 30, November 01 and 04 at all District Secretariats and election offices.  Those unable to mark postal votes on these dates can do so on November 07 and 08, the EC said.
