More rain forecast for several provinces

Rainfall is expected to enhance to some extent in the Southwestern part of the island in the next few days starting from yesterday (10), due to the development of atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the Meteorology Department said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North Western Provinces.

Heavy showers above 100mm are likely in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere at several places in the island during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm are likely at some places.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle can be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderately rough.

The wave height (about 2.0–2.5 m) (this is not for the land area) may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota and Galle via Matara.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
