Mother of Shehansa Tathsarani (6), who died under a collapsed wall, returns home

Nirosha Samanmali, mother of 6-year-old Shehansa Tathsarani, who died when a concrete wall in Wellampitiya Weragoda Primary School collapsed on her, arrived at Katunayake Airport from Saudi Arabia yesterday afternoon.

She had been working as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia for about 1 year and 2 months, and was met by close relatives at the airport.

Nirosha Samanmali, while weeping, had this to say to the journalists awaiting her arrival at the Airport, “I went work overseas to build a house for us to live in, for the future welfare and well-being of my three children. Yesterday was my daughter Shehansa Tathsarani ‘s birthday. I called and asked, what do you want for your birthday? She said she wanted a cake. I said I have eight more months to come and that, when I come back, I will bring cake for you. But I could not bring cake for my daughter. The wall of the school collapsed and finally my daughter is no more. Now I am left with only my two sons.”
