The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has advised the public to refrain from selling vehicles under open papers, urging vehicle owners to follow the proper ownership transfer procedures.
Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Indunil Fernando, said both the transferor and transferee must sign the MTA 6 form and submit the relevant copy to the Department of Motor Traffic.
He explained that the measure is aimed at preventing various illegal activities carried out using motor vehicles and protecting the public from fraudulent practices.
