Member of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka was once again unanimously elected as the Chair of the Committee on Ways and Means. He was appointed when the Committee met for the first time today (20) and his name was proposed and seconded by Members of Parliament Hon. Wasantha Yapabandara, and Hon. Lasantha Alagiyawanna respectively.
The new Chair was elected given the unanimous decision of State Ministers Hon. Sisira Jayakody, Hon. Anuradha Jayaratne, Members of Parliament Hon. W. D. J. Seneviratne, Hon. Udayana Kirindigoda, Hon. Udayana Kirindigoda, and Hon. Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda. Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament was also present at this Committee meeting held.
Commenting on the future actions of the Committee, the Chair of the Committee pointed out that middlemen earn 300% more profit from imported goods brought to Sri Lanka from abroad. Accordingly, it was decided to call all relevant departments to discuss the matter in the next session and the Chair stated that the Committee will be opened to all Parliamentarians on that day.
