Puttalam District MP Ali Sabry Raheem was arrested by Customs officials at the Katunayake Airport after finding a stock of gold biscuits and jewellery and a stock of mobile phones worth Rs.78.2 million yesterday. The total weight of this gold is 3kg and 397 grams, and its market value is estimated to be 74 million rupees.
There were 91 smart phones in the stock of mobile phones worth Rs. 4.2 million, Customs spokesman Sudaththa Silva said.
He was arrested when he came to Sri Lanka from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Further investigations are being carried out by the officials of the Sri Lanka Customs.
