MRP for MOP fertilizer announced

The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, advised the chairman of the two government-owned fertilizer companies, Dr. Jagath Perera, to declare the maximum price at which MOP Fertilizer (Muriate of Potash)  can be sold as 9000 rupees.

A review discussion was held yesterday (12) at the Ministry of Agriculture about all the available amounts of fertilizers for the 2023 Maha season. Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mr. Janaka Dharmakeerthy, Dr. Jagath Perera and Director of National Fertilizer Secretariat Mr. Chandana Lokuhewage and other officials participated in that discussion.

At present, 27,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizers are available to the two government-owned fertilizer companies and urea fertilizer has also been given to all farmer service centers.

For this reason, arrangements have been made to sell a bundle of urea fertilizer and MOP fertilizer at 9000 rupees and the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera advised Dr. Jagath Perera to name the prices for MOP fertilizer as the maximum retail price that can be sold.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the two government-owned fertilizer companies said that the demand for high-quality organic fertilizers has increased in this Maha season, which was not seen in the previous cropping seasons.

In addition to the two fertilizer companies, it has been reported that the farmers are buying more of the high quality organic fertilizers sold by the private sector this Maha season.

Encouraging farmers to use high quality organic fertilizers as a very good trend, the minister also mentioned that it is essential to apply organic fertilizers as well as chemical fertilizers according to a certain percentage for a successful harvest.
