My goal is to advance sports in this country – Dilshan

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Tilakaratne Dilshan, Kalutara district candidate for the United Democratic Voice Party, stated that he left behind his invaluable Australian citizenship and entered politics to serve the country and especially to support the field of sports.

Dilshan was speaking at a public meeting held at the Wadduwa Public Grounds in Kalutara.

Elaborating on his decision, Dilshan said, “I had the chance to enter politics in 2015. If I had done so, I wouldn’t be standing here and speaking today. Back then, people believed that everyone in Parliament was corrupt, and fortunately, I remained free from that allegation. Now, we have a great opportunity to serve the country and, particularly, for the future of our children.

“My only hope is to advance sports in this country. With my experience in cricket, I am in a position to make a significant contribution for school children. I am currently working on plans to develop all sports, including volleyball, netball, and elle, by identifying existing challenges and providing solutions. I am formulating a programme to nurture talented children through education and sports and bring them to the national level. Detailed plans will be shared with the public through my organizing team in the future.

“As the national organizer of the United Democratic Voice and the leader of the Kalutara district team, I have been empowered by the party to work independently. With that strength, I am confident that I can make a substantial impact in creating a brighter future for the children of this nation, with the support of their parents.”
