‘My support is for Ranil who stabilised the economy’

Former Minister and MP Thalatha Athukorala stated that when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who came to power with a huge mandate fled the country it was President Ranil Wickremesinghe who came to save the helpless people and end their suffering and that is why she decided to support his victory in this Presidential Election.

Thalatha Athukorala stated this yesterday (8) while joining the ‘Puluwan Sri Lanka’ public rally in Welimada. Speaking at the rally she further said, “Today is a very important day in my political life. And a very happy day. I have been thinking about making this decision for a long time.

I am a conscientious decision maker. I was in Parliament for twenty years.

Ranil Wickremesinghe was my leader for 16 years and I was under the leadership of Sajith Premadasa for four years. I can talk about the weaknesses, abilities, skills and talents of both these leaders. But this is not the time.Ranil Wickremesinghe is contesting the Presidential Election today as an Independent candidate. I decided to support his victory. I have thought these decisions through very carefully.

Two years ago, the people of our country were suffering. The former President left the country. The people were lost. At that time, the people had no food, drink, medicine, fuel, electricity or water. At that time, the President worked to stabilize the country economically. Hard decisions were made”.
