National Selector accuses FSL of selection meddling

Naina Mohamed

Football Sri Lanka (FSL) National Selector Naina Mohamed accused the authorities of interfering with selection policies, which has brought disaster to the national and junior teams during the recent past.

Mohamed blamed FSL officials for including three players who were not seen at the trials without their permission for next month’s Women’s SAFF Championship in Nepal.

“We have given a squad of 35 players, but they have brought in another three players who were not seen at the trials without our permission.”

“We are helpless as even after selecting the final squad the FSL authorities have a habit of shifting the positions of players according to their will, to create an opportunity for an outsider to come in, which I think is unethical.”

“Thereafter, the coaches start complaining about the players, and we cannot do anything about it as we had selected the players based on their performances.”

“I am totally disappointed with the panel of coaches because most of them are not suitable for the role, and I believe they should be selected through a panel of professionals.”
