‘National Supply Chain Day’ marks progress and excellence in Sri Lanka

A significant chapter in Sri Lanka’s professional landscape began with the establishment of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM). As the first government-recognised institute for Supply Chain Management Education, ISMM has been a beacon for the professional development of Purchasing and Supply Chain functions in our nation, since October 24, 1972.

Over the years, ISMM has played a pivotal role in shaping the standards and practices in the field of Supply Chain Management. Our institute has been a proud member of the Organization of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) since 1976 and was incorporated by Act of Parliament No 3 of 1981.

Affiliated with the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management, the global body representing 48 national associations and over 250,000 professionals engaged in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, ISMM stands as a testament to our commitment to global best practices.

For three decades, ISMM has been at the forefront of education, offering comprehensive programmes covering all aspects of Supply Chain Management. We have conducted professional short courses, Advanced Diplomas, Graduate Diploma contributing to the development of more than 10,000 professionals in the field on a national scale. In recognition of our founding day, the Government declared October 24, as the National Supply Chain Day.

This day not only commemorates the establishment of ISMM but also signifies the importance of Supply Chain Management in our country’s economic growth.

As part of our commitment to advancing the field, ISMM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Industrial Development Board of Sri Lanka on April 10, 2023. This collaboration aims to elevate Sri Lankan industries to new heights in the realms of Supply Chain and Lean Management concepts.

Among the initiatives to celebrate National Supply Chain Day, the National Supply Chain Excellence Awards takes centre stage. This event serves as a platform to recognize and encourage industries that exemplify Supply Chain Excellence.
