As severe weather conditions threaten several areas in the country, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed two relief teams on January 15, to the vulnerable area of Buddhangala in Padaviya, Anuradhapura. These teams are engaged in disaster relief operations to provide aid and support to the affected communities.
Following the heavy rainfall, the Ma Oya in Padaviya has reached its overflow level. To address the ensuing flood risk, the two Navy flood relief teams, with lifesaving equipment, have been deployed to the flood-risk areas. As of Sunday morning (19), Navy teams ensured the safe crossing of the inundated Padaviya-Buddangala road and continued their relief efforts.
Fifty Navy relief teams are also on standby, prepared to be deployed to assist the public in the event of flooding.
