Passengers stranded inside an SLTB bus surrounded by rising floodwaters in the Balanthota area of Nawalapitiya were rescued following heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions.
Videos circulating on social media showed muddy floodwaters rapidly inundating the area, leaving the bus trapped as water levels continued to rise.
A group of young men from Nawalapitiya stepped in to assist the rescue operation, using a lorry to evacuate passengers to safety. Footage showed passengers being helped out through the bus windows as floodwaters surrounded the vehicle.
The quick response and bravery of the youths helped prevent what could have been a major tragedy amid the worsening weather conditions. (Newswire)
