Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said that the Sri Lankan society will be healed if the Anti-Corruption Act is properly implemented.
The Minister said this while speaking at the Cabinet Media Conference held at the Government Information Department yesterday (25).
He said that fraud, corruption and irregularity have spread like a cancer in government institutions and due to this, he has handed over the situation in the Railways Department under his command to the Criminal Investigation Department. He recalled that an Anti-Corruption Act with strict conditions and clauses like never before had to be passed in Parliament.
He emphasized that when the anti-corruption act comes into effect, the opportunity to implement many things will be lost, and even if a bribe is taken, nothing can be done with the bribe.
He said that anyone can bear any expenses if they can reveal how they earned a car, a house, a door, engaging in foreign trips, festivals and expenses, that is, under the Anti-Corruption Act, they will have to pay a huge compensation under bribery and corruption.
