Dr. Harini to be PM again
25 ministers, 28 deputy Ministers
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet of Ministers of the incoming government is scheduled to take place today at 10 am at the Presidential Secretariat, in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
According to political sources, the new Cabinet consists of 25 Ministers and 28 Deputy Ministers.
One or two Deputy Ministers are to be appointed in relation to the subjects contained in a certain Ministry.
The JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva recently said that the position of Prime Minister in the new Cabinet of Ministers will not be changed and Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will continue to be the Prime Minister.
Commenting on the appointment of the Cabinet of Ministers, he said that sometimes large ministries may be difficult for a single Deputy Minister to control, so in such cases two Deputy Ministers may have to be appointed.
The NPP has emphasised that it will adopt a “scientific” approach to Cabinet appointments, and these will be based on expertise rather than personal connections.
National People’s Power of President Anura Dissanayake swept the 2024 Parliamentary Elections held last Thursday raking in a two thirds majority winning 159 out of 225 seats in the parliament.
