On October 4, 2024, Attorney Chinthaka Darshana Hewapathirana officially assumed duties as the 32nd Chairman / Director General of the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), following religious ceremonies.
43 year-old, Hewapathirana is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo. Previously serving as an attorney at the Matara Magistrate’s Court, he is recognised for his dedication to community service and youth development.
As the fourth child of David Hewapathirana and Kesari Nanayakkara, he completed his primary education at Kirinda Adarsha Kanishta Vidyalaya, secondary education at Puhulwella National School, and St. Thomas’ College in Matara. He has been actively involved in student activism, serving as the Media Convener for the ‘Siyatha’ media platform, the leader of the school debate team, and as the deputy leader of the Knowledge Measurement team. He has also held the position of headmaster at Kirinda Puhulwella Piyarathana Dhamma School.
Chinthaka Darshana is recognised as one of the country’s most popular lecturer in political science and legal studies. He is married and conducts free counselling workshops for school and Dhamma school students.
The event was attended by the board of directors and all staff members of the NYSC.
