New entrance from Diagama to Horton Plains

A new entrance from Diagama to the Horton Plains National Park has been constructed with the assistance of Tokyo Cement, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

The new entrance gate from Diagama to Horton Plains was recently opened and is equipped with a ticket office consisting of all required infrastructure and constructed totally at the financial expense of the Tokyo Cement Group.

Speaking at the opening ceremony that was held last week, Minister Wanniarachchi said that Tokyo Cement had carried out the project as their personal duty at a time when the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Department are unable to commit to such a construction.

Cabins have been constructed for security purposes and quarters have also been built with all the required infrastructure for wildlife officers including park custodians.

In addition, solar panels have also been installed to generate the required electricity.

Tokyo Cement has invested Rs. 50 million for the construction of this new entrance gate and ticket office in Diagama and all the constructions have been done while preserving the eco-system.

The ticket office has been built with all the necessary infrastructure that includes a car park.
