New Records Tumble on Day 1 of 59th Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiment Athletics Meet

 

The 59th Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiment Athletics Meet commenced today (22) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Major General Harendra Peiris, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

This year’s event witnesses the participation of 575 athletes representing 21 Regiments, competing across 26 exciting events.

On the first day of the Athletics meeting, the Army athletes managed to set two new competition records. The details are as follows:

• 4x100m Relay (Women) – Sri Lanka Signal Corps – 47.27 seconds (Signalwomen T.A Muthukumara, Signalwomen M.Y.F Shafia, Signalwomen A.P.M.S.K Aberathne, Lance Corporal D.T.A De Silva)

In this event, the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured the second place, and the Army Service Corps secured the third place.

• 10,000m Race (Women) – Private W.A.M.R. Wijaysuriya of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps completed the race in 35:01.91 minutes.
