The introduction of a new OMR/OCR system to expedite the release of examination results and the establishment of a dedicated evaluation centre were among the key matters discussed at a recent meeting of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
According to Parliament, the meeting, chaired by COPA Chairman MP Kabir Hashim, focused on reviewing the progress made by the Department of Examinations in implementing recommendations previously issued by the Committee.
During the meeting, officials briefed COPA on measures already taken and future plans to improve the efficiency of releasing examination results, including the introduction of new technology and the establishment of a separate evaluation centre.
Discussions also focused on improving the question paper evaluation process, deploying internal and external examiners, safeguarding the confidentiality of examinations and ensuring the efficient conduct of institutional examinations.
The Committee further examined the availability of physical space, technological equipment and printing facilities required for examination activities, alongside proposals to revise allowances and fees relating to examination and evaluation duties.
Meanwhile, attention was drawn to the use of examination result analysis to develop teacher training programmes, improve subject knowledge and teaching methodologies, and provide teachers with the necessary training to support the proposed education reforms.
COPA emphasised the need for the Department of Examinations to promptly implement its previously issued recommendations to further improve institutional performance and the efficiency of examination-related services. (Newswire)
