Sri Lankan champion weightlifter Dilanka Isuru Kumara established a new Sri Lanka record of 257kg in the 55kg category at the National Weightlifting Championship which is now in progress at Gallela Public grounds Indoor Stadium, Polonnaruwa yesterday.
The commonwealth silver medalist Indika Dissanayake is expected to compete today and Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe is also expected to witness this event today. Last week the Minister came to this venue and gave instructions to solve the problems in this sport. Weightlifting is the highest number of International medals received by Sri Lanka recently while they are getting ready for the next Asian Games.
