Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, the incumbent Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), has been appointed as the new Acting Chairman of the SLFP during the party’s Politburo meeting held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday (8) morning.
An emergency meeting of the SLFP Politburo was held under the leadership of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and senior party members including Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Parliamentarian Duminda Dissanayake, who were expelled from their posts in the SLFP recently, during which the decision has been taken on the appointment of the new Acting Chairman of the SLFP.
The Politburo meeting was called by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Senior Vice President of SLFP, where all members of the Politburo except former President Maithripala Sirisena, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Shan Wijayalal De Silva participated. The meeting had been called to discuss the future activities of the party due to the present situation that the SLFP as a party is facing. Speaking after the Politburo meeting, MP Duminda Dissanayake said that he being the National Organiser of the SLFP has been appointed by the Politburo members as the Acting General Secretary of the SLFP.
