Nine touts who took money from people near the Immigration and Emigration Department with the promise of getting new passports without following due procedures were arrested by officers of the Police Intelligence unit yesterday.
That is according to the order of the Public Security Minister Tiran Alles.
Complaints had been received that brokers were promising new passports outside of the proper procedures without people having to be in queues by charging Rs.25,000 for the processing of passports.
Thus, the Public Security Minister had ordered the Intelligence Agencies to immediately investigate this matter. Public Security Minister Tiran Alles says that these operations will continue and if officers of the Department are involved in the matter measures will be taken to expose them as well.
