ITAK MP M. A. Sumanthiran PC told the media at the Colombo High Court yesterday that there has been no discussion in the Tamil National Alliance about presenting a common Tamil candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election. An agreement has been reached recently between the Tamil People’s Alliance led by MP C. V. Wigneswaran, Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization
(TELO) led by MP Selvam Adaikkalanathan, People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) led by MP Dharmalingam Siddharthan, Tamil National Party led by N.Sri Kantha, and Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) led by Suresh Premachandran to field a Common Tamil candidate for the 2024 presidential election, but none of the signatories are members of the Tamil National Alliance. Before the end of the date of acceptance of nominations for the Presidential election, steps will be taken to convene the member parties and make a decision about the course of action taken by the party regarding the upcoming Presidential election.
MP Sumanthiran representing Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) and Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) leader and MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam have not signed the agreement.
