No fraud in Channel Eye renting – State Minister Shantha Bandara

State Media Minister Shantha Bandara yesterday said that no fraud has taken place in the Channel Eye deal as it was carried out with the concurrence of Board of Directors, Trade Unions and the employees.

“The Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation decided to get this amount, not because of anything else, but to minimise the loss and fulfil the national responsibility”, the State Minister said.

Speaking in Parliament added that the Sri Lanka Rupavahini management had asked all employees and trade unions of all parties to implement this proposal. “The Chairman and the Board of Directors of SLRC have the power to make decisions in this regard,” he said.

He added that there is no need to go for Cabinet to implement this deal. “There is a mistake in the Cabinet paper. He said no TV channel wanted Channel Eye. The reason is that Swarnavahini had got the right to broadcast LPL matches. It was from that channel that a request was made to give this amount and then the Board of Directors increased that amount.
