Health and Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said in Parliament yesterday (10) that although the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Dr. Vijith Gunasekera was summoned to the Health Ministry, no decision has been taken so far regarding giving him responsibility.The Minister said this while replying to the question by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa regarding the removal of Dr. Gunasekera and his absorption into the Health Ministry.
The Opposition Leader stated that a problematic situation arose and the former NMRA CEO
was removed from that authority and absorbed into the Health Ministry.
Premadasa said that he applauded the decision to remove the CEO from the authority, but it was inappropriate to absorb him into the Health Ministry.
The Health Minister said that the Opposition Leader’s statement will be investigated and the Chief Executive Officer of the concerned authority will take a decision regarding the absorption into the Health Ministry.
