Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has given instructions to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to avoid disconnection of electricity during this weekend holiday season.
The Minister said that the CEB was instructed to avoid disconnection of electricity for non-emergency maintenance work as well.
He said that steps will be taken to act according to the national guidelines on disconnection of electricity for maintenance purposes, and that this step has been taken by paying attention to the complaints received from the people about the constant disconnection of electricity.
The Minister further said that due to unnecessary maintenance work on weekends, huge costs have to be incurred for overtime allowances.
