“Because of this very reason former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has become a target of the Opposition,” Herath said.
Herath was speaking at a special media briefing held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday (2) morning. This was organized by the SLPP Engineering Front.
Engineer Herath pointed out that if talented leaders come forward, they will be attacked by individuals and groups and such situations have been seen throughout history. He pointed out that Basil Rajapaksa’s entry into Parliament will strengthen the role of the President.
Herath recalled that the present government came to power with the inception of the Sri Lanka People’s Front under the leadership of Basil Rajapaksa and has been able to win the Local Government, Presidential and General Elections.Irrigation State Ministry Secretary Ivan Perera, State Printing Corporation Chairman Janaka Ratnakumara, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission Chairman Udeni Wickramasinghe and General Secretary of the Public Engineering Front of Sri Lanka Samantha Indika were also present at the media briefing.
