Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered to release the body of Nimal Amarasiri, candidate for the Nivithigala Pradeshiya Sabha of the Ratnapura District, to the family.
The magisterial inquiry into the death was conducted yesterday by the Fort Magistrate. The Magistrate also ordered to conduct the postmortem into the deceased person.
After receiving the postmortem report, the case is scheduled to be called again on March 14 to make the relevant order.
The Slave Island Police informed the Magistrate that two statements were recorded from the deceased person’s brother and Treasurer of the Thennagalla Division. Nimal Amarasiri was died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following the protest staged by the Jathika Jana Balavegaya in Colombo on Sunday (27).
