The provincial activists of the National People’s Power and their followers have again started threatening other party members like in year 88/89. Many threats have been made to our organizers and activists in Hambantota district. These should be stopped. Or their leaders should take steps to stop them. We are not afraid of mob threats. We can face them.
But everyone has the right to do politics or have an opinion. Seeing their defeat, now they are going to creazy. The members of the National People’s Power say they will take care of us when they came to power. What to watch out for? We know very well how they looked after in 88/89. So don’t be afraid of these threats. We are not threatening anyone. Do not persecute. We are doing our job properly.
The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, expressed these views yesterday (01) while addressing a meeting of the organizers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and United National Party in Ambalantota Division to confirm the victory of Hon. President Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe should be appointed as the leader of this country again. It is the responsibility of all of us. When we consider his last two years, the leadership he has shown is very excellent.
You know the situation two years ago. As a bankrupt country, we were marginalized in the world. But before two years passed, we were able to stand up again because of the visionary leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. We were able to get out of bankruptcy due to the economic renaissance program implemented by him.
Now Mr. Anura Dissanayake is saying that when he comes to power, he will implement a renaissance era. But it was the President who started the real renaissance of this country. Now every sector of this country is showing growth. Many loss-making companies are making profits again. The hotels that were closed are full of tourists and the highest tourist arrivals are recorded. Also, the country’s foreign reserves have increased. Therefore, there is nothing for Mr. Anura Dissanayake to do a new renaissance.
Also, two months ago, government employees started a massive strike demanding a salary increase of 50,000 rupees. The strike was led by trade unions belonging to the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna. But Anura’s election manifesto did not include the promise to increase the government employee salary by 50,000 rupees. It should be explained why the Janata Vimukti Peramuna, which asked for 50,000 rupees to disturb the country, was not included in its election manifesto.
The country will win only in the victory of Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe’s agenda. Without that, if we continue to experiment, this country will fall back down. Another era of queuing is coming. An era will come when people will die in queues.
Experiments in politics are very crucial. It affects the people of the entire country. If the experiment goes wrong, the country and the people will fall. And now there is nothing to try. In 2022, the experiment conducted to find a capable president to lift the country from the abyss it had fallen into has been successful. What is needed now is to re-appoint Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to the position of President to carry forward that agenda.
Therefore, the minister also mentioned that the people of Hambantota will work hard to make Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe win in the September 21 presidential election.
