We will not betray the confidence placed on us by the people and we will definitely build a government that empowers the people, NPP Leader and Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
“Shouldn’t we fight to change the current miserable situation of the country? If we have a real bond with the people of our villages and if there is a real intimacy with them?.
Today we have a crucial moment. The ruling groups who have harmed and destroyed this country should definitely be driven out and a government of the common people should be formed. We will definitely form
such a style of government. Why have thousands of people come here from all sides? It is because of your faith placed on us. There is a bond with us. I give you a guarantee. We will not allow you to lose the trust and confidence you have placed in us.
He said this while participating in the election rally of the NPP’s titled “Rata Anurata” held in Thambuttegama recently.
“Earlier, this election fight was between several families. Today in 2024, it has become a battle between a few autocratic families and the common people. This battle has spread from the national level to the village level. So far this country was ruled by several families. But it doesn’t matter, If they have done something for the country. It doesn’t matter if they have freed people from suffering. You and I have been watching this disaster for decades. We are not big people. But determined people. We are the people who never give up,”he said.
“I started this political journey in 1988 when I was studying at Thambuttegama Central College. Nearly 36 years have passed since then. We faced various repressions. We saw our friends die before our eyes. Death has come to our doorstep. But we did not give up the determination to save this country and the people from this disaster. In 1994, we barely started to rise again. We face both victory and setbacks. Some gave up on this.
Then we had to face the false information and plotting. But we did not give up the strong determination that this exercise will win somewhere. I have been representing the Parliament for 24 of these 36 years,”he said.
