National People’s Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath commenting on the recent NPP delegation’s visit to India, said that an understanding on issues of mutual interest with India was very important for the development of regional co-operation.
He also noted that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna the main stakeholder party of the NPP also maintains clear and unequivocal relations with China and especially with the Chinese Communist Party.
He also noted that the people should not forget that the JVP is a single political party and the NPP is a broad political alliance that includes a number of political parties and civil organizations, including the JVP.
He stressed that the NPP has also changed as a political movement in this country in accordance with the changes that have taken place in world politics.
“India never said not to have relations with China. Also I must stress that neither China nor India will influence our political conduct or policies,” he added answering a question from a journalist.
