National People’s Power (NPP) MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said the NPP had discussed with IMF regarding how to advance the debt restructuring programme without locking-down the economy.
She also stated that the agreements made with the International Monetary Fund will be reviewed and new proposals will be submitted according to the mandate that the National People’s Power will receive in the future. Amarasuriya was speaking to the media after a public meeting held in Kandy on Saturday.
She also said that it is important to talk to the IMF about the burden that has been placed on the people as well as the assistance expected in debt management. She emphasised that there are many measures to be taken to ensure the growth of the economy and build the manufacturing sector and added that NPP is not ready to lock-down the country’s economy in the debt restructuring process.She added that an agreement with the IMF should not be a burden to the people.
