In 1924, the World Savings Banks Congress named October 31 every year as World Thrift Day.
The National Savings Bank, the only representative bank in Sri Lanka of the World Savings Bank Institute, launches programmes to encourage thrift throughout the month of October every year.
This year too, in commemoration of World Thrift Day October 31, the National Savings Bank launched a programme to distribute plants islandwide, themed ‘A beautiful garden; a strong economy’.
Arrangements were made to distribute plants under this programme to depositors who visited NSB branches on October 31.
Through this programme one could meet one’s daily requirement of vegetables and fruits, that could be consumed toxin-free.
A project that was implemented as yet another phase of NSB Agroforestry Project.
Symbolizing this occasion, Ajith Peiris, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the National Savings Bank and Anoma Gomes, the Deputy General Manager (Operations) was present at the event held at the head office branch of the National Savings Bank.
