Obesity high among Colombo children – Specialist

According to the latest survey reports, obesity of children among schools in the Colombo District has increased to 8 percent, Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva said. She said that the development of obesity in children will have a negative impact on their future and the frequency of non-communicable diseases will increase in the future.

She pointed out that due to the difficulty of buying foods rich in protein, children are resorting to consuming foods rich in carbohydrates and that is the reason for the increase in obesity in children.

She also stated that obesity can be prevented by giving protein foods to children while minimising flour-based foods as much as possible.
