The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Caution level’ heat advisory for 14 districts across Sri Lanka, valid for tomorrow (20).
According to the advisory issued today (19), the heat index, which indicates the temperature felt on the human body, is expected to rise to ‘Caution level’ in some areas of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and North-Western provinces, as well as the Monaragala and Hambantota districts.
The Met Department stated that a ‘Caution level’ heat index, ranging from 39°C to 45°C, could cause fatigue during prolonged exposure and physical activity, while continued activity could result in heat cramps.
The public has been advised to remain hydrated, take frequent breaks in shaded areas and limit strenuous outdoor activities.
People are also encouraged to wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing, check on elderly and sick individuals and avoid leaving children unattended inside vehicles. (Newswire)
