Old Sylvestrians SC seven a side cricket

Old Sylvestrians SC – 7-a-side Tennis ball cricket tournament played for the President’s trophy was held at the Police grounds, only the old boys of St. Sylvester’s were allowed to take part. The teams in action were Old Sylvestrians B and ACC, SSCK Hunters,Vesters Riders, Vesters Kings 2004, Silver Lions, Fighting Flacons 990, Vesters Knights 2016, 93/19 Batch, Jonny Walker 97, Super 88, Super Kings 88, Black Egale 2015, Panthers 2004, Asgiriya Vesters,14 Knights, 2008 Batch.

SSCK Hunters won the championship and the second place was taken by Asgiriya Vesters both these teams presented a good game of cricket The best batsman award was won by T.D.Ranjam Prabath of Asgiriya Vesters, the best bowlers award went to R.M. Hamsun SSCK Hunters, Best Fielder A.W.M.Riyas SSCK Hunters, and the Man of the tournament award was won by L.P.S. Arosha Ranil Asgiirya Vesters. The opening ceremony was graced by top cricketer of St. Sylvester’s College A.S.Dange. who led the school team and Kandy District team; he is one of the vice presidents of the Old Sylvestrian Sports Club.and the awards were presented by R. Maheswaran, G.G. Hewamathies, Upul Basnayake, U.S.K.Kodituwaku The cash awards and the winners and runners up trophies were donated by some of the members of the Old Sylvestrian SC.

Peradeniya SC win

In the Kandy District Cricket Association -Qualifying Tournament match Peradeniya Sports Club beat Siyanco Sports Club by seven wickets at the Pallekelle Prisons grounds,on Tuesday. Siyanco Sports Club won the toss and decided to bat and and scored 104 runs in 28. 2 overs and in reply Peradeniya Sports Club scored 105 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 23.2 overs to pull the game in their favour.

Trinity Weightlifters do well

Trinity College weightlifters led by Abidh Jameel gave a magnificent performance to emerge overall weightlifting champions at the All-Island Schools’ Games 2023 held at Royal College, Polonaruwa.

They were able to win the Under 17 with 13 points where lifter 81kg – Yasan Kavsidu was number one, 102kg – Sadil Angammana number one and 102kg Ravishka Dissanayake took the number two place. The in the under 20 were able to get 14 points, 73kg – Abidh Jameel was third, 89kg – Chamod Dehigama first , 102kg –Sherwain Wavita second, 109kg –Hashendra Wijethilake first. The winners were guided by their knowledgeable coach M. Wijeratne and were well backed by MIC K. Galagoda. The meet was held with large number of young lifters
