Oman’s SLFEB officer to be arrested over prostitution racket

The Criminal Investigation Department is currently making necessary arrangements to bring down and arrest an officer of the Foreign Employment Bureau station in the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman, who has been aiding and abetting the organized traffickers who are engaged in bringing Sri Lankan women to Oman on tourist visas and direct them for prostitution.

According to the officials of the Human Trafficking, Smuggling Investigation and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division attached to the CID, this officer has also molested and raped Sri Lankan women after they arrive in Oman and many women who are currently staying in a safe house in Oman have given many pieces of information and evidence against him.

One of those women came to Sri Lanka a few days ago. The CID has presented her before a forensic officer yesterday to obtain a report. CID officials revealed that she claimed that the officer of the Foreign Employment Bureau has raped her.

The investigation by the CID has also revealed that the officer has a close association with the agents who take Sri Lankan women to Oman for prostitution.

He has even taken steps to hand over the women who come to the Embassy seeking protection to the same agents.

The human Trafficking, Smuggling Investigation, and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division attached to the CID has not arrested any persons of Sri Lankan foreign employment agencies involved in this racket. Sources in the CID revealed that many foreign employment agents are likely to be arrested in the next few days.

According to CID, there are 45 women who were taken to Oman on tourist visas and subjected to various pressures including prostitution. A group of officers of the Human Trafficking, Smuggling Investigation and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division attached to the CID who went to Oman on October 3, had recorded the statements of all of them.
