Once bankrupt country transformed under President’s leadership – Shehan

Under the current President’s leadership, a country that was once on the brink of bankruptcy has been transformed into one where economic development and public support are now achievable, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said, speaking at the ‘Ranil ta Puluwan’ (Ranil Can) rally in Medawachchiya recently.

He went on to say, “Since 2022, our country has been steadily stabilising financially, and the lives of our people have also become more stable. The government, led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has undertaken significant efforts to bring our country to this point.

“Back then, we faced a crisis with 13-hour power outages and shortages of fuel, food, and gas. No leader was willing to take on the country at that time. However, President Ranil Wickremesinghe stepped up, addressing the basic needs of the people, including providing fertilisers to farmers and ensuring they were supported and established a support scheme for fertiliser assistance amounting to Rs. 25,000 per farmer for the upcoming season.

“Anura Kumara Dissanayake lacks the capability to address the country’s needs. They cannot engage with International Monetary Fund (IMF). The National People’s Power (NPP) led by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) seems primarily focused on keeping the suffering population in distress. Therefore, the people are not prepared to entrust power to JVP. This party was also responsible for halting the Sampur power plant and delaying the Uma Oya project by seven years.

Sajith Premadasa claims to have a capable team, but this team was unwilling to take charge in 2022. If they had the capability and responsibility, they would have managed the country then. However, it is only President Ranil Wickremesinghe who has been able to take charge effectively. The President has ensured that all the necessary resources are provided to the people without shortages. Additionally, he has worked to stabilise the country’s economy.

“Over the next five years, we anticipate that he will continue to provide relief to the people and enhance their quality of life. President Wickremesinghe has also allocated funds for the development of the North Central region and supported the Mahakanadara project. Starting from the coming year, state employees’ salaries will be increased by Rs. 25,000.

“Under the current President’s leadership, a country that was once on the brink of bankruptcy has been transformed into one where economic development and public support are now achievable. This is why it is essential to give him the mandate for the next five years.”
