The National People’s Power (NPP) believes in serving the people through good politics instead of engaging in dirty politics, our country needs good politics. As part of this, we are committed to abolishing the pension of MPs and presidents, cancelling vehicle permits given to MPs, ceasing the provision of houses to Ministers, and ending the practice of paying utility bills for ministers’ residences,” NPP Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
Addressing a public rally held in Badulla on Monday (2), he further stated, “The NPP’s election campaign is driven by the public. We have received widespread support from people in offices, on buses, at social gatherings, and even over the phone.
Our campaign is entirely supported by the public, without any personal gain.”
Dissanayake further said, “Recognising the challenges facing our country, NPP has established several committees to develop programmes essential for national progress. We have engaged with people in villages, assessed the country’s resources, and observed global trends. This process has culminated in a comprehensive plan to build our nation, which has been presented to the public.”
Acknowledging the negative perceptions of politics and politicians among the people, Dissanayake stressed the importance of good politics. He reiterated that the NPP is committed to serving the people and aims to transform the country for the better.
In addition, the NPP intends to implement several reforms, including abolishing the pension of MPs and presidents, cancelling the vehicle licences given to MPs, ceasing the provision of houses to Ministers, and ending the practice of paying the utility bills for ministers’ residences, reducing the number of cabinet ministers to 25, eliminating roles like Deputy Ministers and State Ministers, and implementing strict measures to combat fraud, corruption, and wastage.
Perpetrators of fraud will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, and stolen assets will be confiscated, he added.
