Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka speaking after Australia match said “ Very disappointed about team batting performance after good start from the two openers .
I think we all came to win the game but the match day was not our day .If we could have scored 300 runs we had chance to win the game easily .We never come for matches to be beaten and always go for victory.
Actually our plan was to score over 300 runs but it was not done due to struggling middle order and that was very disappointing. However I am happy about my performance having scored back to back fifties .
we want to do better in our next matches and hope to go with good plans added Nissanka who is in good form as an opener . Our middle order did not click and our batting line up is struggling.Australia bowled really well while their bowling ,fielding and batting was very good. Both my self and Kusal Janith Perera maintain good batting performance during first 22 overs and others couldn’t maintain the momentum and that is the area to correct in next matches .We knew we had good batting line up during first two games in which we scored over 300 runs and we will come back hard added Pathum
Meanwhile Australia wicket keeper josh Inglis said they had a good plan to beat Sri Lanka .When I came to the middle my mind always very fresh and It was just about building a partnership. It wasn’t a huge total and 150-odd was needed when I came in, so I remained busy in taking on the slower bowlers and building on the partnership and it really worked out .Josh Inglis who replaced Alex Carey as wicket keeper said I tried to be busy, keep the scoreboard ticking against the spinners and if there was something in my area, take them on.
With out playing more matches at this world cup It’s tough. You just got to prepare for those games even if you don’t play,Any way winning against Sri Lanka gave big boost for next few, matches and keep us in contention
Sri Lanka team is having new plans and go for next Netherlands game which is scheduled to be played on October 21 at same Lucknow wicket .Sri Lanka team will commence training today after having rest day yesterday.
