Over 1,800 persons died in road accidents in the country during the first 10 months of 2024.
Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that according to Traffic Police Unit reports, a total of 1,818 accidents have been reported countrywide during the period from January 01 to October 25, 2024.
DIG Thalduwa also said that these accidents had resulted in the deaths of 1,898 individuals and of them, a total of 676 were pedestrians.
Sri Lanka had recorded 2,557 deaths in 2,200 road accidents in 2023, the Police Spokesman said.
